A Unicorn Promise

About the Author
Pamela Kay Dowell (P.K. Rowan)
I am an Iowa author whose creative world is woven from faith, heart, childhood wonder, and the quiet miracles that shape our lives. I write stories that blend realism with gentle fantasy — tales where trauma and hope walk side‑by‑side, where love grows in unexpected places, and where the smallest symbols can carry the greatest meaning.
My writing journey began long before I ever published a book. It started with music — devotional songs placed on my heart after losing my mom. Over 200 songs came to me in moments of prayer, grief, and healing, and today I share them through YOURS — Yews Only Unique Resonate Soundscape, my YouTube channel dedicated to scripture‑based music and spiritual encouragement.
I am also the author of a 10‑book children’s educational series, each one created with the same love and imagination I poured into my own children and grandchildren. My stories for young readers are filled with kindness, learning, and gentle humor — the kind of books that feel like home.
My fiction work explores deeper emotional journeys. A Unicorn Promise is my first full‑length novel, a story born from resilience, faith, and the belief that even in the darkest places, miracles rise. I write with a heart for survivors, for dreamers, and for anyone who has ever held onto hope when life felt impossible.
Whether through music, children’s books, or novels, my mission is simple: to create stories and songs that help people feel seen, comforted, and inspired.
I live near the river and the beauty of Iowa, where dragonflies, quiet mornings, and the beauty of nature with the golden sun often find their way into my work. I am a wife, a mother, a grandmother, a creator, and a believer in the power of gentle miracles.
Thank you for being here. I’m honored to share my stories — and my heart — with you.

The Unicorn Door — the symbol at the heart of my stories.
The True Meaning of the Door
The stained‑glass door was designed by Chuck’s father as a tribute to his wife before she died. Every symbol reflects her life:
-
Sea green — her favorite color
-
Unicorns — her fantasy world
-
Sweet peas — her flowers
-
Hummingbirds — her spring visitors
-
Peace roses — her emotional language of love
-
Four unicorns — her four children
-
Two red roses — the eternal love between her and her husband
This is the reason the door was made.
The Deeper Meaning — The Mirror
But when Penelope sees the door, every symbol also matches her life. Her color. Her flower. Her hummingbird. Her peace rose. Her unicorns. Her promise. Her future children in her dreams. Her quiet place.
Chuck sees his mother. Penelope sees her entire life .
This is the hidden meaning the story reveals slowly — the emotional truth behind the symbols.
So as you read the story you will find the true meanings of the symbols through Penelope's life.
