Marilyn, Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother

I lost my mother in a car accident. I created this song to be sung at her grave site.

Marilyn our Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother

Verse 1: In the garden of our hearts, you bloom, A yellow rose of love, in eternal room. Your laughter, a melody so sweet, In every memory, we meet.

Verse 2: Dad went to church on a Sunday, Met the most beautiful woman there, Asked her to marry him and set their story a flair.

Verse 3: So happy she was, when she found out, A baby on the way, She wanted to dance and shout.

Verse 4: Spoiled Pam was in every way, Soon she had a brother, Cass, Double the trouble, you could say.

Verse 5: Then our sweet Mother brought home another. Three children now, two boys, a girl too, Kenan joined the family, Through all the trouble we caused, Our Mother was never blue.

Chorus: Our Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, Your love, a beacon, like no other. Through every joy and every strife, You colored our world, you gave us life. The hardest working woman we ever knew. Every task your strength shown through. Marigolds and yellow roses, her favorite blooms, In every petal, her love resumes. A garden of memories, bright and true, In every flower, we will always see you.

Bridge: With open arms, she welcomed her grandchildren, Pam brought Jennifer and Kyle, Cass brought Craig and Travis, Kenan and Regina brought Mallory, Madolyn, and Maxwell. Each one a joy, a new chapter to tell.

Verse 6: Families are always changing, and hers always did. She laid her husband to rest, and welcomed a new son-in-law, Brett.

Soon a new journey and title she earned with nine great-grandchildren, and one on the way, her heart oh so full.

Verse 7: Kyle and Angel had three children for her to love, Annaka, RyeLee and Melanie. Jennifer and Ryan also brought three kids to the party, Tristin, Brenner and Paisley. About the same time, Travis and Elsa started their family. Alexander, Paityn and Laylah would join them. She passed just shy of getting to meet her tenth great-grandchild she was so looking forward to, a girl Madolyn and Konnor will soon welcome.

Verse 8: She loved teaching grandchildren and great-grandchildren to sew. She was always willing to tag along to doctors appointments for support or help.

Verse 9: And help she did, watching her family grow, farm chores, projects. It never mattered how long it took, she baked counters full of cookies, pies, and candy for Christmas.

Verse 10: She’d always be the one to make the cake, even if you called at the last minute. She always had a box ready to go in her cupboard.

Verse 11: She loved taking pictures at holiday get-togethers and parties, even though not everyone was happy to be in the shot. Winter was a time for quilting and Summer was a time for mowing yard, flowers and gardening.

Verse 12: We can lay under the blankets she made, make the recipes she cooked time and again.

We all probably have something she canned in our cupboards.

Verse 13: Though she’s gone, her family will always have memories of time spent with her, Stories to retell in the future, her love carrying down through generations, as before. Though it breaks our hearts to say goodbye, She’s now with a family she once had to let go of too.

Chorus: Marilyn, Our Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, with open arms you welcomed each and every one of us and each of us brought memories to share. Marilyn you will always be our  Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, Your love, a beacon, like no other. Through every joy and every strife, You colored our world, you gave us life. The hardest working woman we ever knew. Every task your strength shown through. Marigolds and yellow roses, her favorite blooms, In every petal, her love resumes. A garden of memories, bright and true, In every flower, we will always see you and love you. we will always see you and love you.
